If you’re like me then you write a post, publish it and then notice a stupid error in it (usually spelling or grammer for me). So you go back into the post, edit it and re-publish… only to notice another error. And so on until you are happy that the post is correct and a thing of beauty worthy of publication.

Now this quest for perfection is admirable and I’m sure your readers appreciate it.

Unfortunately, because of the way WordPress is setup you may be being punished.

When you publish a post or page WP sends out a ping via RPC pingomatic, this alerts various pinging services that you have made a change and it may be worthwhile sending in the ‘bots to have a look.

But, and here’s the problem for perfectionists, every time you edit – you ping, and some of the services take a very dim view of excessive pinging and will ban your site.

Here is where Max Blog Press Ping Optimizer shines.

You can set this plugin to limit excessive pinging to however many you believe you can get away with in a set period of time. I always use an MBP (Max Blog Press) setting of 1 ping in 60 minutes, although I can’t really tell you why I chose those settings, other than they just feel right!

In addition, you can import your own list of pinging sites. Now I know that a lot of people think that RPC Pingomatic is adequate… but do you want to settle for adequate? These are the pinging services that I use, if you know of anymore then please comment and let me know.
